The Magpies have been extremely busy this summer, adding eight new players to their squad so far.
Rafa Benitez has made a determined effort to improve across the pitch as he has added in several positions.
It means there is now competition for places in nearly every position, a situation that some players may not be too happy with.
Clark is not one of them though, instead insisting that the level of competition is good for them considering the number of games there are in the Championship.
"There's been three different pairings there already, so there's good competition," he told the club’s official website.
"But that's the same all over the squad. We have quality players and with the amount of games there are in this league it's a good thing for us.”
It will actually be interesting to see how that competition for places affects Clark himself.
The centre of defenced had long been a problem area for the Magpies, but Rafa Benitez has sought to fix that this summer by adding both Clark and Grant Hanley to his squad.
That means there is particularly fierce competition in that position, and it remains to be seen if Clark can earn himself a permanent place across the campaign.
