Lee Clark: “Over the last few years people in the media have looked on the negative side of things but now there are a lot of positives coming out of Newcastle.
“I will be proud of it when Andy Carroll get his first cap – not as his former coach – but as a Geordie and as a fan of Newcastle United.
“He is a massive asset to the football club and he has played more games and improved as he’s gone on, he used to really enjoy his training.
“When I worked with him at 16 or 17 he had a natural talent and was a massive threat in the air but since then he has taken his game on to a new level.
“He’s learning still but his hold up play and control not to mention his change of pace is incredible.
“He’s not frightened or intimidated by anybody and his physical impact in every game is great too."
