One newspaper report claimed that we had backed out of the arrangement because the winger was suffering from a thigh strain, angering Ipswich’s coaching staff.
But Cushing hit back, commenting: "The facts of the matter are that the Football League would not allow Darren to be loaned to Ipswich for a reason attached to Ipswich currently being in administration.
"Both Ipswich and Newcastle were told this by the Football League and their subsequent denial is therefore surprising."
Although the Football League claim not to have been consulted about the matter, they would have had little choice but to refuse any request anyway as Town’s play-off rivals Wolves, Norwich and Nottingham Forest were apparently unhappy about the idea.
