Strikers Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are carrying knocks; Cheick Tiote is almost certainly out after the midfielder picked up a calf strain at Cardiff; while captain Fabricio Coloccini was rated doubtful after taking a kick in the game.
Alan Pardew suggested Coloccini could see his first international call up in three years ruined, because he may have to pull out of the squad.
Alan Pardew: “We will have to monitor Cheick. We are sweating on him for next Saturday, if I’m honest.
“Colo has a knock and right now I’m not sure how that is. He is due to meet up with the Argentina national team after the weekend and we are going to have him assessed to see if he can go.
“Demba got a slight knock on Friday, as did Papiss. We hope and think both will be OK.”
