Come On Ashley - Name A Stand After Sir Bobby!
The 75-year-old, who is battling cancer, received a special scroll detailing his new status and was shown a commemorative plaque which will be hung in the hall to mark the occasion.
Sir Bobby, who has been diagnosed with cancer five times since 1991, was given a standing ovation by the councillors gathered in the hall.
Born in Sacriston, County Durham, in 1933, Sir Bobby moved to the nearby village of Langley Park at a young age, where he began his footballing career at Langley Park Juniors.
He signed to Fulham in 1950 and went on to play for West Brom and England.
As manager he won the FA Cup for Ipswich Town and took the cup to Langley Park, where it was placed in the shop window of the Spar corner shop for all the locals to see.
Fans have called for the Newcastle owner to name a stand at St James' Park after their hero ... but either Ashley is deaf; not interested; or too busy at his new club ... Chelsea.
