Looking at the positives, the Magpies lifted themselves into 15th place in the table with a much needed win on Wednesday night. But the down side was the booing - by Toon fans - of their own player Celestine Babayaro.
He is a player who has not produced since his signing from Chelsea, and like too many who arrive at St James' Park and pick up good wages but don't put in the performances, he can be frustrating to watch. But booing your own players is not the answer to success.
Babayaro was at fault for the second goal, and had to suffer the ignominy of the displeasure from some. But we all get frustrated and I've had my moments with too many players to mention, and it does not help anyone.
Roeder: "Babayaro showed immense courage and bravery to play through that difficult period. I was quite surprised at the reaction he was getting when he was on the ball early in the second half.
"But, typical of our supporters, he kept showing for the ball and playing well and it all changed again and they got very much behind him."
