DASTARDLY DOUG RETURNS
As if things couldn't get any worse for Graeme Souness, Newcastle's deputy chairman, Douglas Hall, will be present alongside chairman Freddy Shepherd at today's game after flying in from Gibraltar. Yes, the two clowns will probably arrive in a car that explodes and the wheels drop off.
Dastardly Doug is hardly a frequent visitor to St James' Park these days, and rumour has it there is a reason for it. Perhaps he's come to flog the silver, but he would be wasting his time going to the trophy cabinet.
Are the two of them plotting the arrival of the next manager, as we suggested yesterday? The odds are stacked against the gaffa and the fans are preparing for the worst. A Villa goal like that by Kevin Phillips at the Stadium of Light would certainly light the touch-paper.
