He was injured against Swansea City nine days ago with an ankle problem, and it was thought the 23-year-old had kicked his last ball for the club.
BUT ... he could STILL fit in a match or two before returning to Germany.
Alan Pardew says the Holland international is expected to be fit for the club’s penultimate game of the season, Saturday’s home fixture against Cardiff City.
Alan Pardew: “De Jong is going to miss this game, but he should be OK for Cardiff.
“His ankle is not too bad.”
De Jong hasn’t scored a goal in his 11 United appearances and there is no chance of a permanent move to the club from Borussia Monchengladbach.
United are looking to sign two strikers in the summer transfer window, and he won't be one of them.
