Personally I haven't seen anything from him that can suggest he will make the big step up to Premier League ... and neither big signings Mathieu Debuchy or Davide Santon need worry.
But (obviously) Alan Pardew has faith in the kid.
The defender has revealed that he is relishing the chance to play regular football for Rotherham United this season, but is League One the place for him?
James Tavernier: "You always get a good amount of games over Christmas and we can pick a lot of points.
"It's a great thing for me, I love the games to come quicker than every Saturday, I'd want two games a week normally.
"But it's a great feeling when you have back-to-back games when you are playing well. So I'm really looking forward to the games coming up."
Rotherham currently sit sixth in League One.
