The reputation of Newcastle United mustn't be high in France given the disrespectful comments coming out of the country since the club signed Mapou Yanga Mbiwa.
First Montpellier president Louis Nicollin was quoted by Sky Sports as saying "It was agreed he [Mbiwa] could leave if he found a club he finds interesting, we are not going to cry. His head is not with Montpellier - but it does not matter, he is not irreplaceable.
"I think his agent has a lot to do with Mapou. If he is an ass, that is not my fault - but I think his agent has much to do with this. As for Newcastle, this really is not a good choice - he will re-transfer next year, his move does not bother me."
That sounded like a huge bunch of sour grapes from Nicollin, who is seeing his title winning team be ripped apart. He should have more respect for Newcastle United but Nicollin thrives on being in the press and will enjoy any attention his little tantrum brings him.
It would be fair to expect more of France national team coach Didier Deschamps but he's criticised the move too, being quoted by Le10 this evening as saying "I do not know if Mapou made the right choice, we will see later.
"I think he had no choice. If Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern were also in for him, I think he would not have chosen Newcastle. This can also be a springboard for him in the long run."
