Carver woke up to national reports this morning claiming he had offered to quit his post during a meeting with managing director Lee Charnley.
However, the Chronicle understands that Carver’s only focus was playing his part in ensuring Newcastle survive in the Premier League this season.
Sources close to the Toon camp say that Carver and the players have vowed to tackle the club’s last three games together.
It is also believed Carver was NOT asked to resign by Charnley or the club following some home truths in the Newcastle dressing room after the 3-0 defeat at Leicester City – when the United boss said he felt that Mike Williamson was sent off on purpose.
Carver is under contract until 2020 at Newcastle and were he not to get the job of head coach this summer a clause would automatically see his assistant manager role kick back in at St James’ Park.
