Did We 'Miss The Boat' With Caldwell?

We have been on the hunt for a class international full-back for years, with neither Stephen Carr, Aaron Hughes, or Andy Griffin being anything other than average.
Would Caldwell be good enough for us?
The Stirling-born defender is hoping to prove his critics wrong again by capping a successful season for Celtic with an impressive outing for Scotland.
The defender is keenly aware that he was rated not good enough for Celtic in some quarters following his free transfer from Hibernian in 2006, especially after an enforced spell as a right-back.
Then followed a blunder that will haunt him for the rest of his career when the Hoops faced Barcelona in the Champions League in February. A misplaced pass straight to Ronaldinho allowed Thierry Henry clear for a glorious goal as Barca claimed a 3-2 win.
However, Caldwell has always enjoyed the unwavering support of manager Gordon Strachan and has the self-belief to win over new Scotland boss George Burley too.
Caldwell: "Every centre-half makes mistakes and unfortunately when you give it to Ronaldinho and he's got Thierry Henry outside him then you'll get punished.
"Luckily I had a manager that stood by me and kept me believing. I never doubted myself that I could play at that level and win championships for Celtic and that's proved to be the case.
"The manager's support was great, that's what you want from a manager. Someone who believes in me and gives me the confidence and the belief that I can go and play and do what he asks of me.
"I've never lost doubt that I was doing a good job.
"I always feel when I've played centre-half I've done a job, conceded very few goals and played a style of football that the manager and the team want and the Celtic fans want to see."
