It’s been far from the ideal start to the season for Newcastle United.
Now, on the back of their latest defeat in the Premier League, the Magpies have crashed out of the Carabao Cup.
After seeing Nottingham Forrest beat them, Benitez was obviously feeling low, and made that clear.
He also pointed to it being a pattern for the club this season.
Sky Sports report he said: “We are disappointed, we lost the game, and even more was the way we lost, we conceded an early goal, they were not creating clear chances, we didn’t have clear chances either.
“We could see what happened at the end, the way you lose you have to be disappointed, it’s not the first time this year this has happened.”
It might seem like things are difficult at the moment for Newcastle, but Benitez had some words of encouragement.
The Newcastle manager added that the team reacted well.
Benitez mentioned the decisions made by the officials, and said that they weren’t favourable to Newcastle.
He also commended the players for their efforts.
“The positive thing for me is you could see the reaction from the team and then we have to manage the situation better.
“The decisions weren’t in our favour and it was difficult to take.
“A lot of players seem to do well in terms of effort, they were working hard, it was a question of managing the final minutes better. After the penalty appeal we had the feeling we deserved more.”
