Does Ashley Want To Cash In On Milner?
Kevin Keegan has hinted that James Milner may be used in a central midfield berth next season after praising his impact in that role in United's pre-season curtain raiser at Hartlepool.
But Milner's future is still the subject of speculation, with long-term admirers Aston Villa and Liverpool both keen to lure him away from St James's Park.
The 22-year-old lost his place when Keegan tried out a 4-3-3 formation at the end of last season, and with new signing Jonas Gutierrez primed for a right-wing role when the campaign kicks off the positional experiment makes sense.
Damien Duff is suddenly "back in fashion" after his hat-trick on Saturday and Charles N'Zogbia (although he wants a move to London) seems likely to stay because no club seems willing to pay Newcastle's asking price.
Keegan is looking for at least four more additions to his threadbare squad before United kick off their Premier League campaign on August 16, but Mike Ashley would be willing to listen too offers if it meant bringing in something close to £10m.
Ashley is ready to press for left-back Stephen Warnock ... because he would not break the bank at £2.5m ... while Reading's Nicky Shorey would cost £5m-plus, which is 'pushing the boat out'.
