'Don't Join Man Utd' And It Wasn't From Shearer!

Sean Longstaff and Daniel James have been warned against moving to Manchester United by a TV pundit ... and I'm sure many Toon fans would have thought it was Alan Shearer.

Shearer turned down Man Utd TWICE in his career, and there is no love lost between player and club.

However, the man hitting out at the Mancs this time is former Leeds and Manchester City defender Danny Mills.

Longstaff was linked with United this week - although MEN Sport understand the club have no interest in the 21-year-old - despite a fine breakthrough season for Newcastle.

But despite that fact, Mills has still taken the opportunity to criticise manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his record with youth players, as well as slating United's 'serious' problems.

He told Football Insider: “Man United already have McTominay, a similar type of player and age (22) to Longstaff. If you are a young player like Longstaff, you need to be sure you are joining a club where you can develop.

“Does Solskjaer have a record of developing players? No. Does Rafa Benitez, assuming he stays at Newcastle? Yes.

“Longstaff should think very carefully before leaving Newcastle, where he is likely to play regularly when he is fit again. He’ll regret it if he moves to Manchester United, where he might not play as much.

“Man United have big problems. They need some serious surgery and I’m not sure if it’s the right move for any young player.”

The comments come after Mills had a similar warning for another young British player, Daniel James.

He said: “I’m not sure it’s the right move for James, going to Man United with all the turmoil they’re in.

"Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez are all still there, so he would be competing for a starting place with them.

“There is disharmony and discord as well. For a younger player like James, he needs to go and learn at a different club.

"He’s a frightening talent and has made real progress in recent months but there would be better clubs for him to go than being at a big club like United, where he would be left out and not improve.”
