Don't Pile All The Blame On Coloccini's Shoulders!

The £10million defender wasn't man of the match, but with Sebastien Bassong suspended and youngster David Edgar pushed into a makeshift back four ... perhaps others should take some of the blame.

The Coloccini-Bassong partnership has been the backbone of the side recently, so perhaps this one-off result has overshadowed a lot of good work.

Steven Taylor has been living off his England Under-21 reputation rather than performances for Newcastle, and Edgar is a reserve team player Kevin Keegan was set to off-load because he didn't feel he was up to the standard required in the Premiership.

Kinnear (talking to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle): "He's Mr Reliable normally but he was below par against Liverpool.

"I can understand that.

"One of the reasons for that is because we didn't have two of the usual back four playing.

"I've already said this season that we need to keep a settled back four.

"Also, Colo's performance was probably to do with the quality of the team we were playing against.

"But for all that, I did not expect us as a team to lose in the manner that we did and we must improve.

"It will be a big boost to get him (Bassong) back.

"We did miss him against Liverpool and he too can come back stronger.

"We'll learn from this, but we do need some reinforcements."
