The Frenchman is in line to start for Newcastle United in the Europa League tonight but much has been made of his absence from the squad in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Marveaux’s absence was for private reasons and speculation that there had been a row between the ex-Rennes man and club officials has not been confired.
Alan Pardew: “He’s an important player.
“Marveaux’s going to play, Obertan’s going to play.
“These are players who are going to contribute in the first team.
“Sometimes it’s easier when you’ve got nine first-team players around you, but tonight that’s not going to happen.
“They’ve got to excel this evening.”
