The Scotland international suffered the injury during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell and with his loan spell due to expire at the end of the year it now seems likely he has played his final game for Livi.
A statement on the SPL club’s official website read: "Livingston have received the results of Brian Kerr's X-rays from Newcastle United and the news is not good.
"He has a double break just above the ankle and he is expected to be out for eight weeks.
"Brian has not been put in plaster, though he is wearing a medical boot instead. He has been given a week off then he has to return to Newcastle to start treatment on his injury."
Kerr’s contract with United expires in the summer and he has previously hinted that he would like to find a permanent deal with an SPL club in order to further his international career.
