Guthrie has been banned from Reading’s training ground until further notice after another bust-up with boss Brian McDermott. The former Toon midfielder could also be facing a fine from the Royals, after suggesting the boss plays the "long ball game".
He was gutted at missing the Toon fixture, and he took exception to being left out when his manager announced the team to face Fulham on Saturday.
McDermott responded to Guthrie’s outburst by telling him to stay away from the 3-3 draw at the Madjeski Stadium and also from the club’s training ground.
Brian McDermott: “He was not selected, but he is fit.
“He is part of the squad of 20-odd players and has to get himself into the 18. I just felt it was the right thing to do.”
Just weeks into his Royals career he Tweeted he was “bitterly disappointed” to be left out of McDermott’s team because he was adjusting to a “direct” style of play.
McDermott claimed his tactics were not direct, forcing the former Liverpool midfielder to apologise.
