Duo ruled out of Cup clash

Yet to play in FA Cup this season

The pair would no doubt have figured against Chelsea next Saturday.  But, with Lee Bowyer decidedly out of form and Nicky Butt a ready made replacement for Faye then there is perhaps not as much need to worry had a defender or a striker picked up a suspension.

We have an abundance of options in the middle of the park at present. Unfortunately the phrase ‘quality not quantity’ rings rather loudly with regards to our lack of invention in midfield over recent weeks.


With many tipping a central pairing of Butt and Faye in coming weeks, we can only wait and see as to whether Souness continues to play with four central midfielders or he does in fact bow to pressure from some quarters and start with Laurent Robert.
