Brazil, who had goalscorer Ronaldinho sent off after 57 minutes, won through despite England taking the lead on 22 minutes.

Liverpool forward Michael Owen capitalised on a mistake by Bayer Leverkusen defender Lucio to score past the nervous looking Marcos.

Rivaldo, linked with a summer switch to St James Park, grabbed the vital equaliser for the Brazilians two minutes into first half stoppage time.

Ronaldinho ran at the England defence, before playing in the Barca player who put the ball past David Seaman who was still struggling with a back injury.

Five minutes into the secone half Ronaldinho was again in the thick of the action with a free-kick not far into the half he was attacking.

Everybody, including the Brazilian, expected the ball to be whipped into the penalty area.

Instead the ball drifted past the stranded Seaman, and into the top corner - hitting the woodwork before going in.

Morrocan referee Ramos Rizo ensured that the game would have a dramaric ending when Ronaldinho was red carded just seven minutes later after a tackle on Danny Mills.

The goalscorer was rightly surprised to see red, and had a bemused smile on his face as he made the trek back to the dressing rooms.

He will still have that smile on his face though, as Brazil progress to face either Senegal or Turkey in the Semi-Finals at the expense of England.

We'll bring you full reaction from Kieron and our very own Sir Bobby later in the day.
