Elliot has tried so hard to impress the Toon Army during his three year stint on Tyneside with gestures like throwing his gloves and shirt into the crowd , but mant still have doubts about him.
He was Alan Pardew's first signing at Newcastle, when the manager sent Fraser Forster to Celtic, and not many fans from Newcastle, Celtic or Southampton would say that was a good deal.
Forster is one of the stars of the Premier League this season as Southampton have surprised everyone.
Elliot does not have the 6ft 7" frame of Forster, and he must be one of the smallest goalkeepers in the league, which is probably his biggest failing. He is not a big presence,
Pardew has plenty of faith in Elliot ... but he has to ... he did the deal.
Alan Pardew: “Rob’s come in with a super performance against West Ham.
“That’s what you have to do in the Premier League. Especially this month.
"We go on again on Tuesday.
“It’s a quick turnaround but a chance for us to start a new run.
“Hopefully we can because the last one was magnificent.”
Rob Elliot: “It was flukey goal, a mis-hit shot that fell perfectly for him.
“Other than that I think it looked like a 0-0.
“It was a bit of fortune for them and the ball ended up at their player’s feet.”
