The 24-year-old was met at Newcastle International Airport by boss Graeme Souness and coach Dean Saunders ahead of a medical on Tuesday.

"I am so happy because Newcastle is a very big team and, for me, the manager is a very important person," said. Emre

There was relief and delight on the face of Graeme Souness who stated: “We have worked hard to get him here." The Magpies' pursuit of the 24-year-old has been going on for over a month, and it looked unlikely that the Souness would get his man. However, the deal finally got the go ahead when the Italian club officially accepted a £4million bid for the Turkey international on Monday.

"He will bring a bit of grit and determination and he is a real flair player as well.

"He works very hard, he has been in Italy for a number of years and has obviously learned a great deal of his trade out there.”

Emre, who was a key member of Turkey’s 2002 World Cup campaign, played for Inter Milan only 8 times last season, wants regular first team football to his 2006 World Cup hopes alive.

Providing the medical goes as planned, Emre is expected to sign a 4 Year contract in the next few days.
