Shearer claims Taylor will be a stronger player for his elevation to the full international squad.

Shearer: "He's done very well, and been a regular in the first team at Newcastle.

"He's not the finished article, but for the first time in his career he's in the England squad and that should stand him in good stead.

"It's brilliant to see a local lad come up through the ranks and represent his country.
