Liverpool are set to turn their attentions towards Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock after being put off by, what Kenny Dalglish describes as, 'Newcastle's inflated price' for Enrique.
But the Toon defender is desperate for a move away from St James' Park and he wants to hold talks before Liverpool give up the ghost.
Former Toon boss Dalglish and the Anfield coaching staff are keen to bolster the defence ahead of the new season, with Enrique their priority.
But the Reds' boss is hinting at signing former player Warnock, in the hope Newcastle will drop the price.
Newcastle's transfer valuation of £6million is not sitting well with Liverpool, who value him at less than £5m because he only has one year left on his contract.
