Michael Owen fears his absence from the Newcastle team could be even more prolonged than first thought.
The 26-year-old visited the club's Darsley Park training headquarters on Thursday morning and the damage looks to be even worse than the England doctors feared.
He has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, but there are fears he also damaged the medial ligament. In layman terms, that could add another month to his reabilitation.
Newcastle are now looking at the New Year. Considering Owen had his first injury on New Year's Eve at White Hart Lane last year, that would see Owen making one part performance (against Chelsea on the last day of the season) in an entire year.
Could that mean another visit to American specialist Richard Steadman in for a Newcastle striker? Alan Shearer and Craig Bellamy both made regular trips to the surgeon when they suffered from serious injury.
