BUT .... on Thursday 22nd February 2007 ... we will be presented with the new cup before our UEFA Cup Third Round Second Leg match against Zulte-Waregem.
For years we have longed for a trophy, and I can remember a handful of us saying we would sleep outside St James' Park the day we win something. Back in 1996 when we played Spurs on the last day of the season we had a chance of the Premiership (if Man U lost at the Riverside). It didn't happen, of course, be we still got drunk and slept there anyway!
Then we had the two FA Cup finals, so close yet so far.
And now we have won the Intertoto Cup. It is so bizarre we didn't even know we'd won it! Freddy Shepherd was so surprised to hear the news he even phoned UEFA to ask if there was even a cup!
Well, there is, and here it is. As you see, it can also be worn as a hat.
And it's made of chocolate.
