The well-liked manager is leaving the club when his contract expires and it has not gone down well with the St James’ Park faithful.

There will be a huge backlash from supporters and many will stay away after feeling betrayed by Ashley and his band of bandits.

Rafa Benitez is leaving Newcastle after three years as the club’s manager.

“It is with disappointment that we announce manager Rafael Benitez will leave Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract on June 30, 2019,” a statement from the Magpies read.

“We have worked hard to extend Rafa’s contract over a significant period of time, however it has not been – and will not be – possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives.

“Rafa’s coaching staff, Paco de Miguel Moreno, Antonio Gomez Perez and Mikel Antia, will also leave the club on June 30.

“We would like to thank Rafa and his coaching team for their efforts over the last three years and their significant contribution to what has been collectively achieved.

“We would also like to thank our supporters, players and staff for their patience during a period of uncertainty.

“The process to appoint a successor will now begin.”

talkSPORT had been told to expect Benitez’s exit this week, while reports last week suggested he was going to accept a big money offer from the Chinese Super League.

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer used his column in The Sun to question the chaos that is St James’ Park.

He wrote: “Where is the respect for the thousands and thousands of loyal fans?

“There is not a jot of thought for them even though they are the lifeblood of that football club.

“They have been there a lot longer than Mike Ashley – and will be there long after he has gone.”

And here is how a selection of those supporters Shearer wrote about reacted as soon as they heard the news.

Some believe relegation is on the cards, others called Benitez the best boss since Sir Bobby Robson, while others suggested they will not watch their beloved club until Ashley sells.
