However, with the Premiership season concluding just four days beforehand, the club now believe that they cannot fit the trip in.
"We looked upon this as a tremendous honour to be asked to help China in their World Cup build-up," said chairman Freddy Shepherd yesterday.
"All the other games China are playing in their preparations are against other countries like Portugal and Czechoslovakia, yet they wanted us and we were told that it we did go there and play, there would be a television audience of 800million.
"But they wanted us to play two games and things got a bit tight.
"Not only that, but the games would have to be played immediately after the end of our season when we have players away on international duty."
