Darren Ferguson: "We're aware of Andy Carroll.
"The result at Derby was bad, but we'll get back to training and keep working as much as possible.
"But we know it's going to be a difficult game at Newcastle."
And Carroll says three points against his old club Preston North End will be his priority ahead of personal glory at St James’ Park tomorrow.
Carroll: “It would be nice to score against Preston.
“For me, though, getting three points and another win would be the best outcome.
“It does not matter who gets the goals, but of course I want to score more.
“The only thing which will push us back into the Premier League is goals – and it does not matter where they come from.
“We have five strikers here who are capable of getting them.
“We are lucky to have others in the team like Nobby (Kevin Nolan) who can score them as well.”
