His move for Michael Owen was laughable ... it really was!
Rumour has it he offered the England striker a fraction of what he was earning at Newcastle - some even suggest it was £10 a week and a box of mars bars.
But he's done a good job of promising the best ... in an effort to get the fans to buy season tickets ... a ploy used by Newcastle many times during the 1970s and 1980s.
But is efforts to sign Mark Viduka have been thrown out of the window, because it was never on the cards.
Who says so? The Mackem Sand-dancer himself - Hull manager Phil Brown.
Brown: "Mark is out of contract and therefore a free agent and able to talk to anybody. I've not had a conversation with Mark or his agent.
"He hasn't worked since he finished with Newcastle at the end of the season.
"If we were interested in Mark Viduka, we'd pick the phone up and speak to Mark Viduka because he's not attached to any football club and that hasn't happened."
Asked if it was likely to happen, Brown replied: "No."
And Viduka is alleged to have said: "Thank God".
