The Magpies midfielder recently spoke of his desire to move to a Premier League club competing in Europe’s top competition, in an interview with Foot Mercato, but Bernard doesn’t think such a move is likely.
“Unfortunately, Sissoko was just not good enough in my opinion to think about going to a top-four team,” wrote Bernard.
“Possibly he could be a squad player at the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool, but he isn’t going to start every week… is that something he’d really want?
“I think Sissoko had a decent-enough season, but not a good enough one, so he surely cannot expect deep down that a Champions League club will come in for him,” he added.
Sissoko has long been linked with a move away from St James Park and his most recent admission makes a prolonged stay on Tyneside now seem highly unlikely.
It’s doubtful whether any of the big boys of the Premier League will come in for the Frenchman but there could be interest from midtable sides and from teams abroad.
