But, despite the result, Derby manager Nigel Pearson was not too downbeat.
He said: "We took the game to our opponents and unfortunately conceded a goal at a time when we were causing them quite a few problems.
"I can't fault the application and I think the second goal takes a bit of perspective out of our performance, we showed endeavour although not always with the quality we need.
"But now is the time for me and the staff to keep a calm head because there were plenty of positive elements about today's performance.
"I have to praise the players for how they went about it because I thought in the first half in particular we showed a style of attacking intent that was very positive. For me anyway there are more positives today than there are negatives."
