Forster could be handed a further test against Sporting City Kansas as Alan Pardew begins his quest to determine who will be donning the gloves against Arsenal in August, with Tim Krul and Steve Harper also vying for top spot.

Forster has indicated he is content with life at Newcastle at the moment but there has been no shortage of interest in his services this summer.

Fraser Forster : “It is good to be back and now the aim is to challenge for the first team.

“Friendly games are important for the manager to see what he wants to do when the real action starts in August.

“I am hoping to get more of a chance to do that in America in what should be three competitive games out here.

"I barely had a save to make against Darlington. I didn’t have a great deal to do but I had to be off my line quite sharply a few times.

“That was just to tidy a few things up. However, one of those clearances saw Shane Ferguson get injured, which was really unfortunate.

“For me personally I kept a clean sheet which was important for me, and now the target is to keep a few more in the States.

“I have mainly been involved in friendlies. Even then you want good memories from them.

“A couple of years ago I played at Leyton Orient when we lost 6-1 and it wasn’t the best of games for me.

“It did turn out to be a successful season for the club, who got promoted, and I went to Norwich and had some success there too.

“But as I say, it is mainly about being ready for when the proper action starts.”
