Ciaran Clark's late own goal kept Newcastle from going top of the Sky Bet Championship as QPR earned a 2-2 draw at St James' Park.
Jonjo Shelvey put the Magpies ahead inside the first minute but Conor Washington's second goal in as many games gave the visitors a deserved equaliser before half-time.
Matt Ritchie continued his hot streak in front of goal by heading the hosts back in the lead eight minutes into the second half, but Clark's own goal consigned Newcastle to their first home draw of the season.

Pontus Jansson's 89th-minute header secured a 2-1 win for promotion-chasing Leeds at Blackburn.
Whites boss Garry Monk was criticised for making sweeping changes in the FA cup defeat at non-league Sutton United but Stuart Dallas - the only player from Sunday to keep his place - looked to have given the visitors the points in the 74th minute with a clinical finish.

Elliott Bennett levelled 10 minutes later with a spectacular 30-yard strike but Jansson popped up a minute from time with a close range header to win it for Leeds.
It was the visitors' first away league victory since Boxing Day and keeps them fourth in the Sky Bet Championship standings, comfortably in the play-offs.
Second-half goals from Stefan Johansen and Scott Malone took Fulham to within three points of the play-offs as they condemned Burton Albion to a fifth successive home league defeat.
Johansen unerringly drilled home just three minutes into the second half, Fulham ruthlessly capitalising on some sloppy Burton defending on the halfway line. Sone Aluko intercepted a wayward pass and burst towards the box, eventually crossing low for Johansen to finish from the edge of the box.
Malone made the game safe with just under 20 minutes remaining, finishing off a rapid counter attack as the visitors outnumbered Albion, Chelsea loanee Lucas Piazon finding the full-back's overlapping run inviting him to ruthlessly lash the ball home to seal a 2-0 win.
