After knocking back claims that United were interested in Chelsea's centre-back Robert Huth, Shepherd is clearly happy at what Glenn Roeder will have available to him in his defence next season. Or more nearer the truth ... he didn't fancy having a defender on £50,000 a-week! The Chronicle insist Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt will eventually end up at St James' Park from Feyenoord.
Shepherd: "After discussing things with the manager we know what we want and need. We are on the lookout for attacking players for next season. We have not had a single offer for any players, so our hands are tied at the moment as regards big-money signings. But I'm sure the market will get into action after the World Cup."
