Although Glenn Roeder wanted to keep the 19-year-old Italian American until the end of the season, the Man Utd manager insisted Roeder didn't make the most of the player while he had him. So Rossi has been signed by Italian club Palma to boost the club's battle against relegation from Serie A.

Parma's Roberto: "It gives us particular pleasure to announce the news that today we have concluded the arrival on loan until June 30 2007 of Manchester United forward Giuseppe Rossi."

Sir Alex: "Giuseppe has great talent, which is why we let him go to Newcastle.
And even though he did not have a lot of games, he still comes back to us with a bit more experience and a bit of quality."

Rossi started just five times for the Magpies.
