The Magpies picked up their first victory of the season by beating Morecambe in the League Cup on Wednesday evening but left it late to score against the League Two outfit.
Goals in the last 10 minutes from Shola and Sammy Ameobi secured Newcastle’s place in the third round of the cup and Pardew is now looking to pick up three points when the Cottagers visit St James’s Park this weekend.
Alan Pardew: “It [the win against Morecambe] has taken a little bit of pressure off them, the first goals, the first win.
“Let's hope on Saturday we get a win and then you would have to say that is a start we can accept because four points out of those three games is okay.
"But we have got to win on Saturday and that's what we are going to try to do."
