Aleksandar Mitrovic has revealed he is desperate to get another chance to take down Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.
The Serbian international has enjoyed a good pre-season and has chipped in with three goals in six games and is on standby to start the clash with Spurs this weekend due to Dwight Gayle’s hamstring issues.
Mitrovic, who signed off from the top flight in 2016 with a goal and a red card in the 5-1 win over Tottenham, knows he is fighting to stay at Newcastle with the club open to offers for the ex-Anderlecht man.
During United’s last season in the Prem, he actually scored in both fixtures home and away against Mauricio Pochettino’s side and he admits he is fired up by those memories.
He told the Chronicle: “I have scored in the last two games I have played against Tottenham.
“I hope I can continue in both.
“The most important thing is we play to win our first game with 52,000 behind us.
“I hope with them we can start with a win.”
Mitrovic’s presence on the team sheet would lift the spirits of his fan base on Sunday and earlier this summer, Mitrovic paid tribute to his loyal supporters.
He said: “I’m glad they do (sing my name).
“While I am here I will give everything like I always have.
“Sometimes that’s enough, sometimes it’s not.
“I hope the fans stay with us and we need them now back in the Premier League.”
