He was held in South Kensington, West London, in the early hours of this morning.
The 43-year-old ex-England international is no newcomer to trouble. He was once beaten up in the toilets of a Newcastle nightclub, and later arrested on the streets of the city when someone was alleged to have swore at his sister. He punched a man to the ground and was taken to Northumberland police station.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Police were called at approximately 3.40am by a 43-year-old man who alleged that he had been assaulted by another man at a club in South Kensington.
''Following inquiries, a 39-year-old man was arrested at a separate club nearby at 4.15am on suspicion of actual bodily harm and is currently in custody at a south west London police station.''
