Ginola Discharged From Hospital

The 45-year-old Frenchman crashed into another skier in the Alpine resort of Portes du Mont Blanc.

Ambulance staff said it was a 'severe collision' which resulted in Ginola suffering 'severe trauma'. Injuries included five broken ribs and a broken collarbone, and bruises all over his body.

After a number of hours in hospital following the accident  onTuesday afternoon, the Frenchman was allowed back to his hotel room, but was forced to cancel future engagements.

Ginola's agent Chantal Stanley: "David will be fine. He’s healthy and fit and we expect him to make a full recovery. He’s in Megeve in the French Alps and he’s already out of hospital.

"There are strange rumours about a serious throat problem but that’s not true.

"The worst thing about broken bones is that there is nothing to accelerate the healing, so he just has to wait.

"He is in some pain after a nasty fall, but he will be okay."

What Is It Like For Away Supporters?

yit

Away fans are housed in one corner of the ground in between the South & West Stands, where up to 2,900 supporters (if demand requires it) can be accommodated, in the lower and upper tiers. If you have a ticket for the upper tier then prepare yourself for quite a climb to reach the away area. You are though rewarded with a great view of the action from this section and the leg room is ample. The facilities in this newish stand are above average. On the downside there is little space between the away and home fans. As you would expect there is plenty of banter between the two, but the stewards tend to take a tougher line on the away support. On my last visit a number of fans were ejected from the ground, plus there were repeated warnings to away fans to remain seated.

One strange aspect of sitting in the upper tier is having the Police Control Box directly above you, where a number of uniformed faces can be seen peering down on the away fans. I have always quite enjoyed my trips to Tottenham. White Hart Lane is excellent and the atmosphere generally good, however it is wise to exercise caution around the ground and you may consider keeping colours covered.

Where To Drink?

yi

Due to a number of pubs going out of business in the area around the ground, the choice for away fans is now rather limited. Simon Hornby informs me; 'The best place for away fans to get a drink is the Harringey Irish club on the Pretoria Rd which is opposite White Hart Lane station. It has two large bars showing Sky Sports, offers reasonably priced food and you can also park there for £10'. Dean Palmer adds; 'When you get off the train at White Hart Lane, go straight out of the metal gates and walk straight down the road in front of you. After a couple of hundred yards there is a car park on the left hand side, and the social club is in there. There are always a few away fans in there, and kids are also allowed in there too'.

Tim Pick a visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers fan adds; 'We drank at the Elmhust on Lordship Lane, which is about a ten minute walk away from the ground. It is large mock tudor style looking pub with 4 or 5 Sky Sports screens.  There were home fans and away fans in colours mixing with out any problems. Prices were okay too (for London)'.
Carsie a Spurs fan from Belfast recommends; 'The Three Compasses which is situated in Queen Street (behind Middlesex University), which is a five minute walk from White Hart Lane Station'.

It may be an idea to drink in Central London before the game and then take a train to White Hart Lane Station. There is a Wetherspoon outlet at Liverpool Street Station from where you get the train to White Hart Lane. If you decide to take the long walk from Seven Sisters tube station to the stadium, then there are a number of pubs along the way.

Steve Dobson adds; 'I also suggest that visiting fans with a thirst for real ale, consider catching the train from Liverpool Street and stop off at Hackney Downs to visit the Pembury Tavern. Good beer and quality food. From there it is only 10 minutes on the train to White Hart Lane. The pub is only a couple of hundred yards from Hackney Downs station on Amhurst Road'. The pub which is featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide has no less than 16 real ales on offer! The question is, will you still then make it to the match?

Inside the ground alcohol is served in the refreshment areas. This is in the form of plastic bottles of Carlsberg (500ml). But please note that alcohol is not served in the away section at half time.

How To Get There By Car And Where To Park

iy

Leave the M25 at Junction 25 and take the A10 towards Enfield. Continue on the A10 through Enfield and at the roundabout with the Northern Circular (A406), turn left onto the A406 (Sterling Way). Turn right into Fore Road (the A1010) which becomes the High Road and you will come to the ground on your left.

On street parking is virtually non-existent around the stadium on matchdays as a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) is in operation which means that only local residents who have a parking permit and blue badge holders can park legally. The perimeter of the zone is up to a mile from the ground and this has led to some private car parks near to the stadium charging up to £15 for the privilege. If you do park around the area, make sure that you take notice of the advisory parking notices attached to lamp posts, as otherwise you may find that you car gets towed away.

By Train Or Tube

yi

White Hart Lane Station is the nearest to the stadium, which is only a few minutes walk away. It is served by trains from Liverpool Street. Located at Liverpool Street is a handy Wetherspoons pub, plus a cornish pasties outlet opposite. Richard Crouch adds 'The best station to get to White Hart Lane from is Northumberland Park. Come out of the station and cross the road and you are in Park Lane. It is a ten minute stroll to the ground'.

The nearest tube station is Seven Sisters which is on the Victoria Line. The ground is about a twenty minute walk away, but there are plenty of buses running up Tottenham High Road to the ground. Chris Knibs informs me; 'Although there are plenty of buses, not many of them go past the ground. Those that do mostly have numbers that end in a 9, so take 149, 249, 279 or 349. You can also get a normal overground train from Seven Sisters to White Hart Lane station.

For a period it seemed the Leazes End were struggling to find a Villa player NOT to boo ... as Steven Ireland, Charles N'Zogbia and Darren Bent took stick from the kick-off.

Ireland came for a loan period last January and all he seemed to do was go to the city pubs flashing his tits, as he was caught on camera flexing his muscles to the young Geordie girls.

We saw very little of him on the pitch, and only last week he told the Midlands press: "My time at Newcastle was a waste of time!"

Bent is an ex-Mackem, so he probably deserves a boo every now and again, although he inflamed the situation on Friday by saying: "I want to win at St James' Park for the Sunderland fans".

Well they will be very disappointed then, that it didn't go to plan!

As for 'Charlie Boy', he always says his best for a visit back to the north-east, and he can be a bit of a pain in the arse ... but not this time.

Instead the cheers were saved for Papiss Demba Cisse, who announced his arrival in English football with a stunning debut goal as Newcastle took the three points.

The 26-year-old Senegal striker thumped a 71st-minute volley past former Magpies goalkeeper Shay Given to win a pulsating match in which the visitors probably enjoyed the better of the first half, but failed to beat the inspired Tim Krul.

Newcastle ran out determined to reclaim the fifth place (that Arsenal had nipped into with a 7-1 win over Blackburn) and Cisse stole the thunder.

Villa lost the corresponding fixture last season 6-0, but they made sure that was not going to happen this time around.

Bent may not have enjoyed the best of fortunes on his visits to Tyneside with former club Sunderland - his reception was entirely predictable - although he might have silenced the boo-boys within 13 minutes.

Keane's pass put him in behind full-back Danny Simpson and Krul did well to save from a tight angle before fielding Stiliyan Petrov's well-struck follow-up less than comfortably.

In the meantime, Best had left the field having been hurt in a block tackle with Stephen Warnock and was replaced by Cisse, who arrived to rapturous applause.

The newcomer tested Given with a flicked 16th-minute header, but it was the visitors who continued to enjoy the better of the half with Bent once again denied by Krul after being played in by central defender Richard Dunne.

However, the first goal eventually arrived, against the run of play, at the other end, and the identity of the scorer was no surprise.

Dunne got up well to head Danny Guthrie's cross away from Ba, but when Ryan Taylor smashed the ball back across goal, the former West Ham frontman thumped it past Given to claim his 16th goal of the season.

But as the celebrations broke out, the medics rushed on to the pitch to tend Taylor, who had been hurt in a collision with Warnock in the build-up and left the field on a stretcher with his right leg in a brace.

Charles N'Zogbia fired into the side-netting and Stephen Ireland curled an effort just wide as Villa continued their quest for an equaliser.

However, Ba, full-back Davide Santon and Cisse might all have increased Newcastle's lead in a flurry of activity at the end of the half.

But the game's second goal eventually went the way of the visitors in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Keane met N'Zogbia's cross unopposed in front of goal to volley home.

Villa boss Alex McLeish replaced Ireland with Barry Bannan at the break, but saw his side almost concede the lead for a second time within two minutes of the restart.

Given, who played with such distinction for Newcastle over 11 and a half years, uncharacteristically fumbled after Guthrie had crossed, but neither Ba nor Cisse were able to take advantage.

The game was becoming increasingly open with N'Zogbia for the visitors and Taylor's replacement Gabriel Obertan for the home side enjoying acres of space.

The former Manchester United man worked his way into a promising position with 55 minutes gone when he isolated Dunne and created space to shoot, but he sliced his effort well wide.

Cisse's first big chance arrived with 62 minutes gone and this time from the left when Guthrie clipped the ball invitingly towards him, but the striker could only lift his header over the bar.

Villa eventually responded and, as N'Zogbia made way for Emile Heskey, briefly relieved the pressure.

However, Newcastle regained their lead with 19 minutes remaining, and did so in style.

Jonas Gutierrez's left-wing cross was too high for Ba, but it fell nicely for Cisse to control with his chest before dispatching a left-foot volley high to Given's right.

James Perch drilled a long-range effort just wide and Given had to turn away another Cisse volley, but Krul managed to beat away Ciaran Clark's missile before gratefully grasping substitute Gary Gardner's point-blank header to preserve his side's lead.
