Shay Given: "I thought Wayne was one of our best players against Stoke.

"I hear the England manager was watching, so I don't think he will have done his World Cup chances any harm at all.

"He got forward often and defended well too."

Meanwhile ... sacked England captain John Terry has arrived back in the UK - hand in hand with his wife.

Toni Terry fled to Dubai two weeks ago following allegations that her husband had an affair with lingerie model Vanessa Perroncel, the ex-partner of England team-mate Wayne Bridge.

Four days after the Chelsea skipper flew out to the Emirate to see his wife, the couple jetted back into Heathrow last night with their two children.

Terry, 29, had been allowed to miss Chelsea's FA Cup match against Cardiff on Saturday to take some time off after headlines relating to his private life were splashed across the papers.

He was pictured kissing and cuddling his wife as the couple relaxed by the pool of a five-star hotel in Dubai.

The footballer also enjoyed a kickabout near his hotel during the stay, later signing autographs for young fans.

After the game, he told The Sun: "I've had a brilliant time here. Everything is now cool.

"We know how we feel about each other and that is the main thing. Our relationship has never been knocked down. We're just so in love."

Toni added: "We're very strong as a couple - always have been. John came over to see me and the kids and enjoy a few days in the hot weather."
