Griffin’s England aim

Last updated : 11 October 2002 By Martyn Elliott

Andy Griffin has told the press that having established himself back in our first team he has set his sights on an England cap.

Griffin is a former Under-21 international and would have to overtake Gary Neville, Danny Mills and Luke Young if he was to win an international call-up. But if Griffin keeps on performing as he has done this season, a run out for Sven’s men isn’t out of the question in the next couple of years.

Our reserves had a 1-0 win over Berwick last night, Michael Chopra scoring the winner. The game was to celebrate the opening of the Northumbria FA’s new HQ and amongst the opposition was one Paul Gascoigne.

Down on Wearside Howard Wilkinson took his first training session and one Mackem fan told Sky Sports that the session was really professional, as the new manager had used cones!

In South Africa police are looking into an allegation of sexual assault against Sir Alex Ferguson. It may well be a put up job, but I’m sure the more resourceful amongst you can think of a few songs for our next visit to Old Trafford.
