India's second largest mobile operator Reliance Communications have denied reports they are in talks with Newcastle over a proposed takeover.

Speculation is rife that a takeover is in the pipeline, with the world's sixth richest man Ambani, worth an estimated £23billion, having strongly been linked with making an approach.

Ashley has made no secret of his desire for fresh investment, but is reluctant to agree to an outright sale.

Reliance Communications: "The news report is completely false and baseless. There are no such plans."
