The 21-year-old - who returned from a long-term lay-off in Alan Shearer's first game in charge against Chelsea - limped out of last night's reserve game at St James's Park, a 2-1 win over Manchester City.
Guthrie left the field late in the first half in some discomfort after being kicked on the shin by former Newcastle midfielder Dietmar Hamann.
And striker Xisco - who has been plagued by injury this season - was also taken off as a precaution early in the second-half after complaining of a groin problem.
However, coach Richard Money is confident Guthrie will recover in time for the visit to the Britannia Stadium, insisting he was withdrawn purely as a precaution.
