... Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez is on his way to Norwich in a £3million deal after tweeting his goodbyes to the Toon faithful.
But news from Norwich suggests Chris Hughton is only one more defeat away from the sack.
If there are doubts about the manager, would the club back him with a £3million bid for a player at the arse-end of his career?
The Argentina winger has struggled for action so far this season and rumours have been rife for some time that he will leave St James' Park given the chance.
Gutierrez did not confirm Norwich was his destination, but made it clear on Twitter that he is heading for the exit door.
He posted: "It was an honour and a pleasure to play with the newcastle [sic] shirt and to have the support of the Geordie [sic]."
After then being inundated with well wishes, he added: "thanks for the messages. I enjoy my 5 years at the club, I hope the club finish the highest this season and the best to my team mates."
Alan Pardew is unlikely to stand in his way if Norwich do make a move, although I think the figure of £3million is well wide of the mark.
