Argentinian Jonas Gutierrez says United's workmanlike victories over Club Brugge and West Bromwich Albion are the way forward.
Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are once again the breakaway group at the top of the Premier League, but Gutierrez feels Newcastle can hang onto their shirt tails.
Jonas Gutierrez: “We won ugly.
“You see Manchester City and Manchester United winning in this way a lot. If it is good enough for them, why not us?
“If they can win without playing well, then I do not see why we cannot do the same.
“They have a lot of players and a lot of money, but for us it can be tough.
“Maybe you will win a game from a set play or in the last minute.”
"We were robbed on Wearside last week. We have the two points we lost in Sunderland back in our account.
“We lost them with one of the last kicks of the game.
“This week we got them back.
“If anybody watched just the 90 minutes they might think we did not deserve the win.
“We did not deserve the points but this is football, we worked hard and we now just look to the next game.
“We played better against Sunderland and did not win. Perhaps we did not deserve that.
“Perhaps against West Brom we did not deserve the three points.
“The most important thing is to stay focused for the 90 minutes and stay in with a chance of winning.
“It is going to be a long hard season, so it was important to get three points.
“We always try our best. Maybe against West Brom things did not go how we wanted them to.
“It was a hard game and West Brom played well.
“The first half we were better, but in the second half we lost the ball a lot.
“We were not as compact, but after the game you have to talk about what you do well and then try to improve next time.”
