Steve Harper: "I have to admit waking up on Sunday morning to “Pardew one game away from the sack” headlines gave me a real sense of déjà vu.
"Having had too many managers in my time at Newcastle United it smacked of the same old story of a disgruntled crowd full of frustration venting their – certainly this time justified – anger at the current malaise at St James’ Park.
"Alan Pardew obviously played a key role in my departure from the club last summer so there is no loyalty on my part or “toeing the party line” in my thoughts that follow.
"I know some will say that changing the manager now would give a new boss at least 10 games to assess the current squad to hit the ground running next season.
"And there is an argument for that.
"However, for me Alan Pardew has earned the opportunity to be given the chance to be at the helm for the, hopefully, very hectic summer that lies ahead.
"With Fabricio Coloccini, Cheick Tiote and Loic Remy all returning this weekend an expectant St James’ Park will be roaring the lads forward, even more so after five consecutive home defeats.
"Be patient would be my message to the crowd and hopefully Newcastle will get a much needed win ahead of what will hopefully be a VERY tough game at Hull next weekend."
