The 36-year-old goalkeeper is currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, with another month to be agreed between the Seagulls and the Magpies.
However, Alan Pardew is cautious about agreeing to loan deal that will run through the hectic Christmas period.
Alan Pardew: “If we get through the weekend, I’ll consider another month.
“I’m not sure if Brighton have asked yet, but I’m guessing they will.
“Whether I take him through the Christmas period, I don’t know. We’ve still got a lot of games.
“It’s benefiting both parties, and he’s got a big game this weekend.”
Gus Poyet (Brighton manager): “The idea from the beginning was to take him up to January, but for some reason or another it was for a month.
“We’re happy with his performances, but we need to make sure he’s happy to live here.
“We need it to be good for everyone and not force it either way.”
The current loan deal expires after Brighton’s encounter with Southampton this weekend.
