Shola Ameobi: “It’s a cup competition and anything can happen.
“They were up for it, and we had to make sure, with the young team we had out, that we did a job and we went about it the right way. We did that.
“Like we expected, this was a game in which they wanted to prove themselves against a Premier League side, which was exactly what they did. I thought we coped with it in the first half and were just unlucky they sneaked a goal.”
“We were pretty disappointed with their equaliser, and the time it came.
“Everyone knows Ryan’s quality when he’s shooting on goal from anywhere.
“He’s got that ability to shoot the ball from all angles. It was a wonder strike – the keeper had no chance, and likewise for their goal.
“It was disappointing, but their strike was unbelievable.
“It made for an exciting second half.
“Every time I want to play I want to score goals.
“I could have had a couple, but it wasn’t to be.
“After Peter’s goal, we could relax a bit. It was testament to them – they’ve got good players – that they pressed on to the end.
“It was a great experience for our young lads.
“They’ve really come on, and they coped with the pressure.”
